Traditional Recipes of Atlantic Canada

I don’t think this is done anymore, but back in the 80s gas stations would give out/sell for nominal prices cookware and other things with a fill up.

My parents patronized the Ultramar in our town, and not only got a set of pyrex baking dishes that I’m still using 30 years later, but also this cookbook: Traditional Recipes of Atlantic Canada. It was produced by the gas station company. It’s actually a binder with a series of booklets, each themed by province and containing five recipes. And I’d say they are some of the most popular recipes from the region. While I prefer my grandmother’s recipes for, say, molasses cookies or tea biscuits, I’ve used this for many recipes (including the annual Thanksgiving Jiggs Dinner I made with my Newfoundlander university roommate).
